Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that centre-back Kelvin Wilson will be out for up to 10 weeks after suffering a torn Achilles.
The Hoops defender suffered the leg injury during the Scottish League Cup win over Ross County last week.
The early prognosis suggested that he may be ruled out for around six weeks, but the medical team did further tests which have revealed the tear to be worse than first feared.
The Celtic boss has admitted the news has come as a big blow, as he is already without Emilio Izaguirre, Scott Brown, Gary Hooper and Cha Du-ri.
Lennon told Sky Sports: “It looks like anything up to eight to 10 weeks. He has a tear in his Achilles tendon.
“He had the scan yesterday and the specialist said he would have to be out as long as that.
“It is a huge blow. We already have Emilio Izaguirre and Cha Du-ri out for a few weeks. It just means we have to re-jig things a little bit in defence.
"On the plus side Charlie Mulgrew has served his suspension and he will be back in contention for both games this week and he makes us better.
"Badr El-Kaddouri can't play on Thursday [against Udinese] so we will have to make a change anyway.
"Gary Hooper got a leg knock and it seemed to deteriorate so he was taken off to protect him. We will see how he is, but I am hoping it is not too serious."
Lennon admits the current injury list is not ideal but he will be hoping to secure some new faces in the January transfer window.
He continued: “We are looking to bring players to the club in January, regardless of the injuries.
"Hopefully by that time, Emilio, Cha and Kelvin will be fit but we will have a couple of players maybe coming out of contract near the end of the season and if they are not going to stay, then they will have to be replaced."
