Celtic cruised into the last eight of the Scottish Cup with a thumping 6-0 victory over Inverness CT at Celtic Park. Super striker, Moussa Dembélé banged in his second successive hat-trick in a week, as Brendan Rodgers side ran out comfortable winners against the hapless Highland opponents.
Celtic took their highly impressive undefeated streak to 30 domestic games and have won every match since the 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the start of December.
Celtic took a bit of time to get going, but any potential upset was soon all but forgotten about, when Mikael Lustig gave Celtic the lead with a well taken goal, where he had to bring the ball down, and turn to convert a composed finish into the net on 20 mins. A well timed pass from Nir Bitton, allowed Lustig to pad the ball down before rolling it past Inverness keeper Owain Fon Williams from close range.
From there, Celtic maintained control of the game and soon had the visitors pinned back, and giving them little room to attack, making it all but a frustratingly long afternoon for the Highlanders.
Celtic had a few chances, through the likes of Liam Henderson, but shots were found wanting, and a few chances were wasted opportunities to put the hoops further in front.
But if there was to be a second goal in the game, who was more likely to get it, than the man who scored it, but on fire Moussa Dembélé, who managed to get onto the end of a James Forrest cross, and got enough on it to see it squeeze past Fon Williams.
If Super Caley were to go ballistic this time round, they would have needed a miracle, even more so, with just 4 minutes gone in the second half, when the ball fell to the feet of Dembélé, who hit it hard and low into the bottom of the net, giving him his 25th goal in all competitions. He, however was obviously not happy at this and decided that 26 was a better number, and that would come in the way of a blistering headed into the top corner.
Celtic were now 4-0 up and cruising, but number 5 was still to come. It Came a few minutes from time, when Kieran Tierney popped up with a header for his first goal of the season, to put Celtic 5-0 up.
Celtic had a few chances with Scott Sinclair unlucky not to find the score sheet, but Captain Scott Brown, crept up with a rare goal, that nearly ripped the net off with the last kick of the ball to send the fans home happy with a very comprehensive victory and a 6-0 scoreline.
Celtic have been widely tipped to go on to clinch a domestic treble, and based on the increased level of performances this season, it is looking likely that nobody will stop them any time soon!
